Finding the exact positions might require some finesse, but you can, in most cases, take your time with it. The outer spark (green) makes the lower right mechanism of the puzzle rotate when properly aligned. The inner spark (red) makes the central mechanism of the puzzle rotate when you find its right position.
Your goal is to need two sparks into the right position and hold them there for a few seconds. Although it looks a bit overwhelming at first, it's all rather straightforward. Once you approach a lock and interact with it, you trigger Hogwarts Legacy's lockpicking minigame. Since it's one of several essential spells it, thankfully, does not take up a slot in your loadout. Gladwin actually teaches you Alohomora himself, enabling you to interact with level 1 locks.
